new navy ship email

Here SHE is, the USS New York, made from the World Trade Center !




USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel
from the World Trade Center.

It is the fifth in a new class of warship -
designed for missions that include
special operations against terrorists.
It will carry a crew of 360 sailors
and 700 combat-ready Marines to
be delivered ashore by
helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted
down in a foundry in Amite , LA to
cast the ship's bow section. When
it was poured into the molds on
Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough
steelworkers treated it with
total reverence,' recalled
Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing,
who was there. 'It was a spiritual
moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager,
said that when the trade center steel
first arrived, he touched it with his
hand and the 'hair on my neck
stood up.' 'It had a big meaning
to it for all of us,' he said.
'They knocked us down.
They can't keep us down.
We're going to be back.'

The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'

hahahaha my husband said it is a crappy ship.

It is cool they built it.

But it had to be rewired because someone wired like one or 2 wires wrong,so they had to cut it all out and redo it.

Actually there was A LOT of coverage here in Norfolk.Maybe because we have two naval shipyards? And the largest naval base in the world???

That's probably why you had a lot of coverage. But you'd think that there would be a lot of national coverage about it. There was nothing about it here in Baltimore and they report about stupid crap that happens in other states. This is something that has meaning. I'm surprised that they didn't have some kind of report about it. I didn't even see anything on my phone over the past several weeks about it when I've been checking the news. (My only internet access over the past several weeks) Weird!

Yeah until my dh and I separated I would watch a lot of news with him and I never heard anything. I'm glad there was coverage somewhere though.

this is the first time that i have ever heard about it!!! I think its pretty cool.. but hilarious they had to rewire it!! haha well at least they figured it out before they went and sent sailors and marines on it!!

that though i think is like the coolest thing ever! I love the motto and it will have alot of meaning to those sailors and marines on the ship aye! That truely will give them a reason to fight hard!
