- rachel- how long were the tow trainings separately? I wonder because they told me I would go with him at gov expense as long as it was longer than 20 weeks or 180 days, So I wonder if that's what you were told and his was that long and you didn't get to go or if they forgot to mention that little tidbit lol, that would just be typical military. lol
we werent told anything as far as how long the a school had to be...they just said that i would be able to stay with him. i guess thats partly our fault though because i think most recruiters are like used car salesmen, they will say anything to get you to join and we should have done more research ourselves. i think as far as the 20 weeks or 180 days they might try to get around that too because if everything went perfectly, scott only should have been gone for 26 weeks but it was 10 months because of him being on hold inbetween boot camp and a school and then on hold again inbetween a and c school. is your hubby going to be gone for 20 weeks? i mean is that the plan right now? boot camp was 8 weeks a school was 12 weeks and c school was 6 weeks. he had to get security clearances though to go to school and also had to wait for a spot to open up in a class so thats why he was on hold.

| From our understanding right now, though he still has to talk to the officer recruiter he's going to have to go to bootcamp first to learn all the navy heritage and stuff and then he'll possibly go to OCS because he already has a degree, though who knows at this point because the recruiters really didn't know how to handle his situation even though there were 4 of them there. Hubby already has security clearances so he probably won't have that problem, but I'm sure there is another problem that will arise lol. I think his first choice is intel and then supply/ logistics so we'll see. He just wants to start asap and doesn't care if he has to enlist first and not be an officer right away. | |

| hehe yah, knowing the military, problems can arise at any moment! thats how scott was, he just wanted to get in asap...he didnt want to have to wait to submit a package to ocs and wait to get approved and then wait to go to school. he also figured that if he went through boot camp and was enlisted for awhile it would make him a better officer :) awww how cute is that. he wants to be able to relate to the enlisted guys when he's an officer. thats good that he already has his clearances! that was such a stress factor for us because it was like you have to be soooo perfect! pay all your bills on time and dont spend any of the savings and dont use any credit cards unless you pay them off right away and blah blah blah. that sucks that 4 different recruiters couldnt answer your questions...so frustrating! i hope everything works out for the best though and hopefully he gets in SOON! if he goes intel you will definitely have to keep me updated because thats exactly what my hubby wants to do. | |

| lol, you just made me understand my husband better. I had no idea about all that stuff having to do with security clearance, I guess that's why his dad taught him to be so money tight and that the dollar is all mighty. Thank you, hopefully the next time we're fighting about how he thinks we don't have enough money and I'm like look how much we have in the account, I'll think twice about why he's so concerned, he might loose his clearance I guess or maybe he doesn't know why, but that's how he was trained for this purpose. Yeah I'm the complete opposite, I'd never get a security clearance if it involved finances lol, I had no help with college and it was rough sometimes and since all the bills come out my account I never have any money in it.
Your hubby is right about being enlisted first though, my parents were enlisted and they said they had no respect for officers that automatically became an officer without ever being enlisted. So not only would being enlisted first probably make him a better officer, it'll probably make it easier too because his men will respect him more quickly.
good luck to him! lol | |

good luck to him! lol yay! i feel so good about myself for helping you understand :) hehe so i talked to my hubby and he said the reason the recruiters dont know anything is because theyre probably enlisted recruiters. apparently there are different recruiters for officers which i didnt know. he said to either ask the recruiter in charge for the officer recruiters information, or else he can contact meps and get the information. and youre absolutely correct about the money thing...we have to be extra careful about our money situation or else our hubbies could lose their jobs! and that would be no bueno heh.

from what my hubby told me, school loan debt and a mortgage are considered "good" debt. stuff like credit cards is considered bad debt. so i would think as long as you stay on time and stuff it should be ok. they will ask your hubby about that though when he like starts going through meps and everything. and i would think if he already has the clearance it would be a little different than going through the process of trying to get one. dont worry about it too much friend, im sure everything will work out ok :)

thanks! thats so sweet :) hehe. im not going to lie, DB will most likely change but it will be for the better. scott changed a lot and it was pretty weird at first, but at the same time i loved it. for instance, he folds his towels now when he gets out of the shower (so AMAZING!) he irons his uniform!!! and he is just like so much more self sufficient, its pretty sweet. i mean i love doing stuff for him but its just nice to know that he is responsible enough to take care of himself if he needs to. and, you just cherish your time together so much more when you have been through a separation like this. so its almost guaranteed that he will change but it should all be good!

| haha yah its pretty wonderful. i actually took pictures of him the first time i saw him ironing because before boot camp that would have NEVER happened. he irons like a pro too, gets those creases juuuussstt right hehe :) and yah, he folds his towel. i almost feel like a slob around him now lol. at least he still doesnt do dishes :) yah we lived in san antonio for about a year and actually had just bought and moved into a BRAND NEW house and then like 3 months later he was like ummm i think i want to join the navy lol. i was like what the heck?! it was really hard because when we moved into that house i just in my mind had said you know, we're going to live here for a long time, we're going to have our babies here, our kids are going to go to school here. i just saw us living there for a really really long time so i was really emotionally attached to the house even though we only lived there for a little bit. we're renting it out right now, which was really hard at first too lol, but we know someday we will go back to san antonio :) | |

definitely. thats what we decided. originally we were like, no way could we let someone live in our house! and then we just realized that it was going to be a LONG LONg LOng Long long time until we got to live there again and that it would be stupid to not rent it out. and yah we're hoping to make some money off of it whenever we go back and by an even better house! kim, heres the picture: haha, it makes my heart smile :)

It should not...they will look at debt acquired when you are married.I have HORRIBLE debt and my husband has lost no security clearances. We're not worried too much about that. We're more worried about my political involvements,my Dad's civilian security clearances, and what files the FBI has on family...not even kidding.I have to be careful what petitions I sign and what I sign up for online. My husband wants to go Special Forces so we have to always keep in mind what I attend, what I sign, etc. So unless you acquire tons of debt as a married couple,I wouldn't worry.

Yeah DH is pretty weird about stuff.I dont wear Navy stuff in public unless I know Im on base.I cant have anything Navy on the car. My Dad took me to protest the KKK when I was in 6th grade, takes me to briefings at embassies, and he worked under 2 Presidents. So we know the FBI has files on our family. We dont know how much but it exists. My stepmom lobbies on Capitol Hill too.My FIL also has security clearances to check on my husband's ship too.One of my civilian friends who has SCARY security clearances told me matter a factly that the military knows who I am and is aware of my past...haha.GREAT. I dont think it is something for the average person to worry but if your husband is considering being high ranked or going SEAL or something like Delta Force, then dot your i's and cross your t's.
